Philip Brumm was christened August 3, 1845 in Sternenfels, Württemberg, having been born in Württemberg July 30, 1845, or possibly July 27, and most probably in Sternenfels.
He was listed as age 7 on the manifest for the ship Heidelberg, that took his family and that of an uncle, Daniel Brumm, from Le Havre, France, to New Orleans, Louisiana.
He soon settled in Burlington, Iowa, along with his parents, and on October 7, 1878, he married Sophia A. Meyers (sometimes spelled "Myers"), the daughter of John Frederick Meyers (Sr.) and Dorthea "Dora" (Beck) Meyers.
They had five children. One died in infancy, another, Louisa, at age 2. Their children who lived to adulthood were Rosa C. (Brumm) Netley (1880-1953), Mary Margaret (Brumm) Fehse, and John Frederick (or "John Fred") Brumm (1886-1965).
In 1920 both Philip and his wife, Sophia, went to Waterloo, Iowa, either to visit or possibly to remain and live with their daughter, Rose Netley. They both died there in 1920, about a month apart, after having otherwise resided since their marriage in Des Moines County, Iowa.
Both of their obituaries stated they were buried at the "Dry Branch Cemetery" north of Burlington, Iowa, but as of this writing that cemetery is being researched and may have another name.
