Shirley Spry Kalawaia returned home to our Heavenly Father on June 7, 2010.

She was born April 22, 1928 in Salt Lake City, UT to Claudius John and Lyndall Shepherd Spry. She has a sister, Beverly June (William Randolph) Grimshaw. Shirley graduated from Granite High School.

She married Emil Otto Amann on March 31, 1949 (divorced), and is the mother of two daughters, Vicki Lynn (Bill) Scott and Diane (Henry) Colby.

Shirley worked for many years in the Registrar's Office at the University of Utah. She sang with the Sacra Dulce Choir and served as secretary.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served as secretary with the Brighton Girls Camp, worked lovingly with many girls as a leader and teacher in youth programs, served as Relief Society President in the Emerson Ward and Relief Society leader at Hillside Rehabilitation Center.

She was a member of the Hawaiian Civic Club and spent twenty-five years of loyal service in many volunteer positions in support of native Hawaiian culture.

She married Jess K. Kalawaia on October 16, 1984 in the Jordan River Temple. They had twenty-five happy years together. With this marriage she gained three more children, Wendy Smart, Michael (Jeannie) Kalawaia, and Kanani (Karl) DeBrine.

Shirley and Jess served an LDS mission in the Colorado Denver South Mission in 2002. Even with failing health, she was able to go back to Colorado with her husband and two daughters and visit people that they came to know and love.

She is survived by her husband, all of her children, her sister, twenty grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren (one on the way). Preceded in death by a grandson, Henry J Colby.
