Laurence Clifford Clarey was born April 3, 1929 in Akron, Iowa, the son of Edward (Clifford) and Iva (Belt) Clarey. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. He attended country school near Akron, Iowa while helping his father on the family farm. Following his schooling, he continued helping on the farm and worked for the Farmer's Coop in Akron.

He was united in marriage to Gladys McCorkell on October 27, 1949 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. Following their marriage, they farmed in South Dakota until a farming accident left him unable to continue farming.

In 1957, they moved to Southern California. Cliff went to work for the Pan Pacific Auditorium until the mid 60's, when he went to work for Justice Brothers Oil Company. Following his time there, he worked for Wynn's Oil Company as a warehouse manager. Following his retirement in 1988, they moved back to Akron to be closer to their family.

Cliff was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed having coffee with family and his many friends. Cliff also enjoyed crafting wind chimes and doing yard work. But most of all, he loved the times spent with family, especially his grandchildren.
