Anchorage resident Bonnie McKay passed away on April 3, 2012 at Providence Hospital in the company of her husband and her brother.
Bonnie came to Alaska in 1969 with her family when her father took a job as the Beluga power plant supervisor for Chugach Electric. Bonnie attended and graduated from Dimond High School in 1977 and immediately began her career in insurance working for Alexander and Alexander of Alaska, and then Rollins Burdick Hunter before leaving to join Alaska Business Insurance on the first day of their operation. Alaska Business Insurance was purchased by Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union in July 2002, and renamed Denali Alaskan Insurance where Bonnie worked until leaving in the summer of 2011.
Bonnie served on the Alaska Air Carriers Board of Directors from 1997 until 2009 and diligently led the scholarship and educational activities of the association for more than two decades. Bonnie was enthusiastic, inspirational and tireless supporter of the development of Alaska's youth and aviation safety. In 2009, Bonnie was presented with the AACA Leadership Award for her outstanding dedication to the work of the Association. She was honored for the donation of her energy, ideas, resources, and time to insure the success of AACA and service to the AACA membership.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Brit Bolsinger, her sons, Greg and Ryan Nixon, her daughters, Jennifer Bolsinger and Britany White, son-in-law, Hutch White, sisters, Carol Bohm and Ellen McKay, brother-in-law, Bob Bohm and her brother John McKay. She is preceded in death by her father Leonard McKay and her mother Janie McKay.
Her Husband said of her; "From the first time we met, we had a fantastic run. Highs and lows; challenges with kids; memorable holidays and vacations, graduations, marriages, and grandchildren. I would not have missed this chapter of my life for the world. I know it is cliché, but she made me a better person. She drove me and encouraged me. She was the backbone of the family. She made sure we all did things together. She was a fantastic mother and partner. I doubt a day will go by when I will not reflect on some event in my life with Bonnie and for that I am also thankful. Bonnie will be missed by all who knew her and loved her."
A Celebration of Life was held in July. Ashes were scattered at the family cabin across the Cook Inlet at Beluga, AK
