PEKIN, Ill. Mable Alice Broeker, 92, of 2949 S. 14th Street, Pekin, Ill., passed away at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at Amy's Country Manor in Pekin.
Born August 3, 1919, in Henry County, Iowa, to Marian and Della (Beauchamp) McVey, she married Frederick David Broeker on July 7, 1940, in Brighton, Iowa. He died December 31, 2003, in Bolivar, Missouri. She also was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Surviving are three sons, Michael Edward (Cheryl) Broeker of Lewisville, Texas, David Wynn (Patricia) Broeker of Pekin, and Tony Von (Florence Holmes) Broeker of New London, Iowa; one daughter, Deanna Lynn (Roger) Vensland of Davenport; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mable had been an active member of Mount Gilead Methodist Church in Bolivar, Missouri, for 24 years.
Among her many talents, Mable was an excellent artist. She enjoyed airbrushing the fine details onto calendars. When she was a teenager, she enjoyed a brief career in music and her songs were played on the radio. Although her career didn't last, her love of music was lifelong, and she continued to sing her entire life.
The next several years, Mable was a loving and dedicated wife and mother. Along with her husband, she raised chinchillas and used her skills as a seamstress to make beautiful furs. She cherished her years spent raising her family.
When her children were raised, Mable joined the workforce, working first at New London Glove Factory as a seamstress in New London. She finished her working career working for Motorola in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, retiring after 16 years.
She and her husband spent their retirement years in southwest Missouri, where they spent a great amount of time volunteering for the Pope County Senior Citizens Center in Bolivar. She had also served as an executive board member for the Southwest Missouri Office on Aging for 13 years.
