Shirley was a retired truck driver for the Farmer's Mutual Exchange in Commerce. Shirley had a great sense of humor and enjoyed conversation, a sandwich, and a cup of coffee at the Commerce Drug Company lunch counter. He also had the talent to imitate the whistle of an "Old Timey" steam engine train. He enjoyed doing this and would always turn heads toward the railroad track.
