On the morning of June 25, 1876, JOHN COSGROVE, Memphian and "noted ward politician" was found dead in his bed; jury of inquest found that he died of congestion of the brain. He was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Memphis, on June 26.
Shelby County Death Index indicates he was 37 at the time of his death and his occupation was barkeep. He also appears in the Memphis City Directory as the owner of a saloon and boardinghouse at no. 9 Poplar.
