Samuel Edmond Johnson, born September 8, 1848, in Sweden, married Hannah Marie (or Margarette) Honson in 1866, emigrated to the U.S. from his native land, and settled near Mediapolis in Des Moines County, Iowa. He declared intent for citizenship in 1875. Samuel worked as a shoemaker.
The Samuel and Hannah Johnson family grew. They had ten children, of which five died in infancy or early childhood: Johnny, twins Mandy and Albert, Viola (buried at Kossuth Cemetery near Mediapolis), and a child whose name is not known.
Five other children survived childhood and married. These were:
Ella Matilda (Johnson) Lett (1870-1930), the wife of Walter Theodore Lett (1866-1953) and mother of two.
Sophia May "Sophie" (Johnson) Page (1873-1939), who married Henry "Walter" Page (1873-1939) and had three daughters and a son. They lived in Burlington, Iowa.
Frank Robert Johnson (1879-1930), husband of Amelia Ellen (Larson) Johnson (1884-1982). Frank and Amelia also lived in Burlington; they had no children.
Bamford Freddie "Bam" Johnson (1883-1971), who married Pearl "Blanch" Ping (1883-1908), moved to Kewanee, Illinois, where Blanche gave birth to a son and (she) died there a few months later. Bam and his son, Howard, then returned to Des Moines County, Iowa to live.
Nettie Marie (Johnson) Paddock(1885-1963), wife of William "Arthur" Paddock (1884-1934). They lived in Malden, Illinois, and were childless.
Father Samuel Edmond Johnson died October 14, 1892 (presumably in Des Moines County, Iowa). Although one researcher suggests he is buried at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa, there is no record of his burial in their cemetery books.
