Dr. Bryce Ballard, 82, Mission Hills, KS, died March 4, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. March 9, at Village Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Village Church Community Concern Fund, P.O. Box 8050, Prairie Village, KS 66208; K.U. Endowment Association, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, KS 66106; or St. Luke's Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 119000, Kansas City, MO 64171.
Bryce Ballard was the son of Margaret Hawes and Volney B. Ballard of Attica, KS. He graduated from Attica High School and attended the University of Kansas. In 1942 he received a degree in pharmacy and Doctor of Medicine. He interned at Kansas City General Hospital.
During WWII he served as a Navy doctor for the 7th Battalion and First Marine Division in the South Pacific.
Ballard went ashore with the First Marines on Christmas Day 1943, in New Britain, and in the assault on Peleliu. He received a Marine Commendation.
On his rotation to the U.S. mainland he was a physician at Bethesda Navy Hospital. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine in Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Veterans Hospital. Dr.
Ballard returnedal and asSecretary of St. Luke's Hospital Staff. He was a member of the Task Force that brought the first Cardiac Catheterization Unit to Kansas City, known as the Memorial Diagnostic Heart Institute.
Professionally Dr. Ballard was a board member and Fellow ofLibrary,Elder ins.
Brycewas a loving father and grandfather and respected by all who knew him.

Bryce Ballard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy O. Ballard; three daughters and their families, Barbara and Greg Huwe, Minneapolis, MN, Beth and Bill Southern, Hutchinson, KS, and Margie and Dr. Paul Arnold, Springfield, MO; eight grandchildren, Stefanie Solum, Amanda Huwe, Jason and Bryce Southern, Caroline, Brendan, Elizabeth and Joseph Arnold; and a sister, Mrs. Frances B.
