Jacob Eckhardt, a native of Frank, Russia, and a highly esteemed farm resident of this community since 1927, passed away at his home northwest of Culbertson on Friday morning of last week following an extended illness. He was 70 years of age at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Congregational church in Culbertson with the Rev. Arthur M. Hoffmann officiating. During the services, Harry Propp, Carl Schafer, Ed Sinner, and Henry Brehm sang "Light of Home" and "Beautiful Threads of Gold," accompanied by Mrs. Henry Brehm, pianist. The pallbearers, all sons of the deceased, were Jake Eckhardt, David Eckhardt, Reynold Heinbigner, John Eckhardt, George Eckhardt, and Jake Heinbigner. Interment was in Riverview cemetery, McCook. The Herrmann funeral home of McCook was in charge of arrangements.

Jacob Eckhardt, a son of Conrad and Madeline Eckhardt, was born in Frank, Kutter, Russia, on November 16, 1882 and passed away at Culbertson, Nebraska on June 5, 1953, having attained the age of 70 years, 6 months, and 20 days.

His marriage to Miss Katherine Schriner of Kraft, Russia, took place on December 30, 1908. Five children were born to this union, two of whom died in early childhood.

While living in Russia, Mr. Eckhardt's occupation was farming.

The family left Russia for America in October of 1912. They arrived in McCook, Nebraska in 1913 and made their home there, where Mr. Eckhardt was employed in the Burlington railroad shop. The mother of the family died in 1918.

In 1919 Mr. Eckhardt was married to Mrs. Katherine Margreta Heinbigner at Loveland, Colorado. Seven children, four sons and three daughters, were born to this union. Of these, one son and one daughter died at an early age.

In 1927 the Eckhardt family moved from McCook to a farm six miles northwest of Culbertson, which has remained the family home.

While a resident of this community, Mr. Eckhardt was a member of the Congregational church in Culbertson.

Survivors include his wife, Katherina; eight children, Mrs. Katherine Adams of Culbertson; Mrs. Natalie Kern of South Gate, California; Jake Eckhardt of Englewood, Colorado; John Eckhardt, who resides on the home farm; George Eckhardt of Denver; Mrs. Darlene Leibrandt of McCook, Nebraska; and David and Marion Eckhardt, both at home; four step-children, Jake Heinbigner and Mrs. Esther Sinner, both of Culbertson; Mrs. Elizabeth Hidy of Trenton, Nebraska; and Reynold Heinbigner of Denver, Colorado, and 18 grandchildren.

He also is survived by four brothers, Conrad and George of McCook, and David and John of Cheyenne, Wyoming; one sister, Mrs. George Hofferber of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and a host of other relatives and friends. added by CPoole
