St. Louis, Jan. 4 – (AP) Persuaded by his wife and mother to surrender, Oatley Neal, 35, a painter, confessed to police today that he fatally stabbed Otto Burrows, 52, a laborer, here Christmas night. Neal said he fled to the home of his mother, Mrs. Amanda Davis, near Rolla, Mo., immediately after the stabbing and there learned through a letter from his wife in St. Louis that Burrows had died. Both his mother and his wife urged him to give himself up, he said. He returned here by train to surrender. Neal pleaded self defense, declaring that Burrows had attacked him without cause.
