Death of John A. Galbreath

Fayette, MS, August 30, 1884

Editor Clarion: I have to inform you of the death of Capt. John A. Galbreath, at 3:30 P.M. on Thursday evening. He was buried at Union Church on yesterday (Friday) evening at 5 p.m., by the members of Jno. A. Galbreath Lodge, of Brandywine, of which Lodge he was Master, together with Concord Lodge, Union Church. Mr Galbreath was widely known, as you know, and was followed to his last resting place by the members of his Lodge and a very large concourse of relatives and friends. He was taken dangerously ill on Wednesday, 20th inst., gradually sank from that day, was conscious to the last, and passed away calmly, peacefully and resigned. Yours truly, G. W. Mc Murchy.

Mr. Galbreath was born and has always lived in Jefferson county, and was widely and favorably known throughout the State. In the Masonic fraternity he was justly regarded as a bright light, and he was always in attendance on the meetings of the Grand Bodies. He was a faithful soldier of the Lost Cause - a patriotic, substantial citizen, a devoted husband and father, a kind neighbor and a true friend. We had known him for a quarter of a century, and in sadness we pen this brief but sincere tribute to his worth.
