ERMA J. MEIER, 82, died at 9 a.m. April 2, 2006, at Lima Convalescent Home.
She was born Feb. 3, 1924, in Gomer, to Andral K. and Catherine Hufferbert Vandemark, who preceded her in death. In September 1952, she married Eugene J. Meier, who died in June 1985.
Mrs. Meier was a nursing supervisor at Lima State Hospital. She was a member of Vaughnsville United Methodist Church. She was a 1942 graduate of Gomer High School and was one of the "Gomer Girls." She was 1945 graduate of Lima Memorial School of Nursing and worked at Lima Memorial Health System and St. Rita's Medical Center through the years. She also worked at hospitals in Honolulu and Port Arthur, Texas, where she taught surgical nursing. She enjoyed gardening, reading, painting landscapes and swimming at the YWCA.
Survivors include a son, Michael E. (Lisa J.) Meier of Cridersville; a daughter, Cathy A. (Frank) Clementz of Spencerville; a brother, Carl (Sharon) Vandemark of Elida; three sisters, Aileen (Charles) Irvin of Elida, Maxine Fritz of Lima and Ruth (Al) Moughton of Roanoke, Va.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Bonnie Vandemark of Elida.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Vandemark; and two sisters, Edith Glancy and Bernice Thompkins.
Services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Chiles & Sons-Laman Funeral Homes, Shawnee Chapel. Burial will be in Pike Run Cemetery, Gomer.
