Theodocia E. "Doshie" Runyan Brown
Birth: Mar. 7, 1870
Cocke County
Tennessee, USA
Death: Oct. 12, 1913
McClain County
Oklahoma, USA

Her given name was evidently "Theodocia," but she was called Docia, Doshia, and Doshie. According to the US Census, she was born in Cocke County, TN, in March of 1870. That same year her family and their relatives moved to Christian Township, Independence Co, Arkansas, where they were counted again for the 1870 census. In the 1880 census they were in Fulton, AR, and the initial for Docia's first name is given as "T," supporting the inference that her full name was "Theodocia."

Sometime after that they moved to northern Texas with a number of their relatives, but from there they went north to Indian Territory. By 1892 the family had moved to Johnsonville, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, now McLain County, Oklahoma.

In 1897 Doshie was married to William Jasper Brown, whose first wife had died some years earlier. He had come from Kansas to Pauls Valley to do construction. Doshie helped raise his two youngest children Arthur and Nathan. The four of them are recorded in the 1900 census as living in Pauls Valley, a railroad hub further south on the Santa Fe railroad. It says that William was a carpenter, that they owned their home, and that they could both read and write.

Sometime before 1905 they returned to Johnsonville. In 1907 the Oklahoma Central Railway was built from the Santa Fe line at Purcell to points southeast of there, with a station at Byars, a mile from Johnsonville. Byars grew into a busy town, and William probably helped build it.

Theodocia bore four children of her own to William, two of whom died in infancy. In 1913 she herself died of "consumption." She is buried in the Old Johnsonville cemetery near the graves of her children Bertha Lena and Deverl and near the graves of her parents. Her four children are listed below.
