We have word of the death of a former resident of this county, Elliot Lyons, who died at his home in Plankington, South Dakota, last Wednesday, April 19th, 1899, of cancer of the stomach.
Deceased was born in Rushville, Rush County, Ind., Sept. 22nd, 1837, and when two years of age he moved with his parents to a farm near Dodgeville, Ia., where he resided till 1883, when he moved to Aurora County, South Dakota, in which county he died as stated.
In 1862 he enlisted in the army, serving three years in Co. G, 39th Iowa. He was wounded in battle at Altoona and was prevented fro accompanying Sherman on his march to the sea.
On Sept. 8th, 1869, he was married to Amelia Gearhart, who with a son and daughter, still survive him. He leaves two sisters and four brothers: T. Lyons, of Clarinda, Ia., and Mrs. Sarah Jones, Mrs. Chas. Talbott, and Messrs. Lewis, Noah and Allison Lyons live in this county.
The funeral services were held from the family residence on Thursday afternoon.
