Married Dec. 12, 1833 Campbell Co., Kentucky.

The Daily Commonwealth, Covington, Kentucky, vol. 6, no. 270, Thursday, July 17, 1884, p. 4, col. 2 (sub 'Death of John T. Levis'):
Mr. John T. Levis, one of the oldest and most esteemed citizens of Covington, died, after a brief illness, this morning at 2 o'clock, in the 79th year of his age. Mr. Levis came to Covington in 1830. It was then a small village. He at once took an active interest in the affairs of the town, and was one of the few intelligent citizens of fifty years ago, who laid the foundation for the future advance and prosperity of Covington. When the town chartered as a city Mr. Levis was one of the first Councilmen. Comprehending the public needs, he was active in organizing the fire and police departments, in opening and improving streets, and in the promotion of common education. He was one of the promoters of the Covington and Lexington Railroad, now the Kentucky Central. In fact, all feasable projects for advancing the interests of Covington at once enlisted his energetic support. For more than half a century Mr. Levis was actively engaged in business in Covington, and throughout all that time his career was one of untarnished honor and probity. In his personal characteristics Mr. Levis commanded the respect and admiration of his fellow-citizens. He was genial, companionable and of kindly disposition. He made warm friends; we do not know that he ever made an enemey. Mr. Levis leaves a widow and three children, a son and two daughters. It is needless to speak of the domestic relations of such a man. For many years the deceased was a regular attendant upon the services at the Scott-street Methodist Episcopal Church, South. For his public services and private virtues the people of Covington will long cherish the memory of John T. Levis.
