Mort Lloyd a news anchorman with WDEF-TV 12 News in Chattanooga Tennessee had won the 1974 Democratic Primary to oppose two term incumbent Republican Congressman LaMar Baker.After winning the primary Mort LLoyd was killed in an airplane crash on his way to celebrate his victory. The Democratic Party nominated his wife, Marilyn LLoyd, as his replacement. She went on to be elected and became the first woman elected to Congress from Tennessee. She served from 1975-1995.
