Sgt. Mark P. Adams, 24, of Morrisville, N.C.; was assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force Augmentation Command Element, Marine Forces Reserve, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; attached to 2nd Marine Division, II MEF (Forward); killed Oct. 15 by an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Saqlawiyah, Iraq. He is survived by his parents, two brothers, paternal grandmother, and maternal grandparents. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Mark was the 38th soldier from North Carolina to die in Iraq.
