ANNA LOIS (HARRISON) MCQUERRY

Anna Lois (Harrison) McQuerry, the youngest child of Thomas Jay and Gertrude Lislie (Williams) Harrison, was born on a farm south of Bethany, Harrison County, Missouri on September 1891. She departed this life on Monday, 9 April 1984, at the Noll Memorial Hospital, Bethany, Mo.

Lois spent her girlhood days on the farm where she was born. She attended the Mitchelville country school and graduated from Bethany High School in 1910. She attended the Normal School at Maryville, receiving a degree from the Maryville Conservatory of Music in 1914, and after further study, she earned a Life Diploma for teaching in 1920. Lois taught school in Mt. Moriah.

On 8 February 1922 she was united in marriage to James Madison McQuerry. To this union three children were born, a son Wayne Harrison; twin daughters Jane Margaret and Cora Elizabeth. Jane Margaret died in infancy.

Lois was a Christian, was raised in the Methodist faith, attending the Mitchelville Church, and later the Blythedale Methodist Church. Her love for God and music continued throughout her life. She contunued to play the piano up until moving to the Royal Retirement Hotel last October. She continued reading and studying the Bible throughout her life.

Lois was a devotied wife, a loving mother and grandmother. She was a constant source of help and encouragement to her loved ones. Creating an inspiration for her children being constantly available when sympathy, praise or mother presence was needed; always interested in their accomplishments and their endeavors. Later she extended this love and interest to the activities and accomplishments of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

During the early part of their married life they lived in St. Joseph where their first child, a son, was born. Later purchasing a farm near Blythedale and residing there from 1924 until moving to the retirement hotel in October 1983.

Mrs. McQuerry was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Scott, Burr, Fletcher, and Cary; sisters, Grace, Cora,May, Emma Link and one daughter, Jane Margaret.

Those who mourn her passing are her husband, James, Royal Retirement Hotel, Bethany; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Ruth of Oragne, Ca.; daughter ans son-in-law, Elizabeth and Dr. Waldo S. Scales of St. Augustine, Florida; 7 grandchildren, Thomas, Samuel, Bruce McQuerry, and Patricia Usary; Bill, James and Jane Scales; 4 great grandchildren, Christina, and Jared Usary; Suzanne and Shane McQuerry. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were conducted by Pastor Garold Huitt at the Roberson-POlley Funeral Home in Bethany, Mo. on Thursday, April 12, 1984. Burial was in the Hamilton Cemetery, Mercer, Co., Mo. Pallbearers were Everett McQuerry, Ronald Slaughter, T.C. Harrison, Cecil Harrison, Harrison Link and Larry Eivers.
