After Mount Moriah Free Will Baptist Church was established, Rev. Ellis Gore also formed Holly Springs Church, and in 1851 the Mount Moriah Association was formed with twelve churches. Four of those churches were in Pickens County: Mount Moriah, Holly Springs, Shiloh, and Friendship.
The ministers who were serving the Mount Moriah Association at that time were: W. H. McGee, J. R. Robertson, W. Springfield, J. H. Jordan, D. G. W. Hollis, E. M. Vail, W. R. Latham, J. H. Hinton, I. T. Neighbors, and J. E. McGee.
