Services for Rev. L.D. Nance, 73, of Cullman, AL will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with burial in Cullman City Cemetery, Moss-Terry Funeral Home Chapel directing. Rev. Nance died Thursday at Cullman Medical Center.

Survivors inclue his wife, Genella E. Nance; his mother, Cecilia Nance; sister, LaRue Redden of Kentucky; one niece and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Camp Sumatanga.

Rev. L.D. Nance was a retired Methodist minister and served as superintendent of the Decatur, AL district.

Wife: Genella "Jennie" Evans Nance, daughter of Bob & Linnie Evans

L.D. Nance was born in Kentucky, but by age nine, he was living with his parents and sister, LaRue, in Pontiac, Michigan. He was ordained as a Free Will Baptist minister and, in his early ministry, his name appeared in National Free Will Baptist minutes in the 1940's as a pastor in Detroit, Michigan at that time. Later, Rev. Nance affiliated with the United Methodist church.


Rev. Nance was pastor of several United Methodist churches, including in Birmingham, Jasper and Guntersville, Alabama. He later became the United Methodist's District Superintendent of North Alabama, a position he held until he and his wife retired to Cullman, Alabama.
