Dead At Melrose
In His 81st Year the Estima-
ble Man Passes Away in
His Son's Home
The oncoming strides of old age, hurried along by an attack of pneumonia, caused Sheldon Smith, until four years ago a resident of Woodland, to succumb at the home of Herbert S. Smith at Melrose Thursday.
Deceased was the father of E. L. Smith of Woodland, Charles E. Smith of Melrose, Albert Smith of San Francisco, H. S. Smith now of Melrose but for many years a Woodland resident, and Harry Smith of Oakland.
The body will be brought to this city Saturday for burial in Woodland cemetery at 3 o'clock. Rev. J. W. McAllister of the North Methodist church will officiate.
Mr. Smith was born in the state of New York 81 years ago. He came to California, twenty years ago, settling first in Winters and then coming to Woodland. His wife died here in 1909. Since leaving Woodland Mr. Smith has made his home with his sons at Melrose.
During his residence in this county Mr. Smith built up a reputation for honesty and whole-souled integrity. His friends hereabouts will be pained to learn of his passing."
