Retired Federal Aviation Administration inspector Dale LeRoy Hanson, 65, died Dec. 22 1990 at Providence Hospital [Anchorage, Alaska]. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m.Friday at Central Lutheran Church with the Rev. Fritz Lampe officiating.

Mr. Hanson was born January 10, 1925, in Douglas, ND. He worked as a semi-truck driver and electric welder until being called to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge in 1946, he attended De Ponti Aircraft Mechanic School, acquiring his pilot's certificate in 1951 and his mechanic's certificate in 1953. Mr. Hanson worked for Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis before becoming owner and operator of Alaska
Aviation in Minnesota. In 1966 he went to work for the FAA. His service with the flight standards division in Alaska spanned 21 years, including positions as principal airworthiness inspector, supervisory air worthiness inspector and regional airworthiness specialist.

Since retiring in June 1988, he had been an active designated examiner, designated airworthiness representative and mechanic with inspection authorization. He was also an aircraft consultant and was highly knowledgeable and respected by the Alaskan aviation community. During the late 1970s and 1980s, Mr. Hanson built his dream summer home on the Kenai River, where he and his family enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. One of Mr.
Hanson's greatest interests was the Experimental Aircraft Association, of which he was an active member and past president. He also belonged to the Palmer Moose Lodge, American Legion, Central Lutheran Church and Flight Standards Retirees.

Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife, Gene of Anchorage; his daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Jay Handley, of Wasilla; his brothers, Bob of Phoenix, Arizona, Richard and Gerald, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Kenneth, Lynn, Thomas, all of Isanti, Minnesota; his sisters, Deloris
Feldman of Diamond Springs, California, Joyce Carter of Miles, Iowa, Koreen Gerdin of Bethel, Minnesota, and JoAnn Heckenlaible of Lodi, California; and his grandchildren, Holly and Hunter Handley, of Wasilla, and Melissa Hanson of Anchorage.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Hanson's name may be sent to the Experimental Aircraft Association. Arrangements were by Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Eighth Avenue and E Street.
