Treasure Hunter. He discovered the wreck of the Spanish ship "Atocha" off Key West in 1985, netting about $400,000,000 in gold, silver, and gems. He was considered "King" of the Conch Republic. "Mel Fisher Day" is celebrated every July in Key West on day he found the "Atocha".

I visited your Maritime Museum earlier this month in Key West. I admire your persistence in searching for the Atocha. I have a small coin made from silver taken from the wreck. Your spirit is still very present in Key West. God bless. Rest in peace.
