Leonard Mathisen "Dutch" Blohm

Obituary: Leonard M. Blohm, the son of William and Anna Mathiesen Blohm was born in Hamlin Township south of Audubon, Iowa and died at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon at the age of 76 years, 10 months, and 28 days.

He was baptized and confirmed in the First United Methodist Church in Audubon and attended Audubon County School in Leroy Township. He attended technical school in Des Moines and was employed by Iowa Public Service Company in Audubon.

On October 10, 1938 he married Ramona M. Nelson at Blair, Nebraska. He continued with I.P.S. in Storm Lake and Carroll, Iowa and moved to Kremmling, Colorado in 1954 where he worked for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy with the SeaBees. Ramona died January 19, 1984 and in July of 1986 he returned to Audubon and became a resident of the Friendship Home.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Audubon Post No. 120, American Legion, and a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post No. 9374 in Kremmling, Colorado.

Preceding him in death in addition to his wife, were his parents and one sister, Cecil Barentson.

Survivors include his sisters and their husbands: Arlene and Art Christensen of Audubon, IA; and Bernice and H.E. "Bud" Farnum of Aurora, CO; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Arnold G. and Jean Nielsen of Sequin, WA; Maurice and Georgia Nelsen of Audubon, IA; and Loretta and Kjer Christensen of Kimballton, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Notes from Marilyn Grabill: Uncle Dutch's black horse was named "Bronco". He rode it to school in Audubon. Uncle Dutch was very allergic to horse hair, and he would be wheezing so bad by the time he got home, one of his sisters would have to put the horse in the barn.
