David A. Williams, Grove resident, died at Clarehouse in Tulsa, Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, after a lengthy illness. He was 73.
Mr. Williams was born at Tulsa, Okla., on Oct. 30, 1935, to Edgar and Mildred (Bardwell) Williams. He was a graduate of the Grove High School Class of 1954.
He was also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. In 1954, he went to work for the Boeing Airplane Company in Wichita. In 1970, he went to work as a deputy sheriff for Butler County. In 1975, he became sheriff of Butler County until his retirement in 1997. In 1998, he moved to Grove from El Dorado. He was married to Audrey Lee Raymond on April 8, 1955.
She preceded him on Dec. 17, 2005. He was a member of the Butler Baptist Church, Kansas Sheriff's Assn., National Sheriff's Assn, and the Grove Masonic Lodge #187.
He was preceded by his parents; his wife; two sons, Tommy Lee and Stephen Dee Williams; a brother, Larry Paul Williams; and two sisters, Sunny Whan Turner and Joyce Smith. A funeral will be at 1 p.m., Saturday at Hickory Grove Gymnasium, with Rev. Jim Hale officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Braden Feller, Trenton Feller, John Turner, Casey Williams, Jim Raymond and Joe Bushyhead. Honorary pallbearer will be Jeremy Leonard. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Adcock Funeral Home in Fairland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Clarehouse, in care of the funeral home.
