Inga Coan, 89
Thief River Falls - Inga Coan, 89, died Monday, May 18, 1998 at the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 22 at Faith Lutheran Church in Goodridge with Reverend Robert Dahlen officiating. Joy Nordby will provide special music. Casketbearers will be Ernest Swanson, Dewaine Lappegaard, Lynn Hanson, Palmer Lovly, Earl Halvorson and Robert Parnow. Honorary casketbearers will be all of Inga's grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Ekelund Cemetery in Highlanding township of Pennington County.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 at the Green Funeral Chapel in Thief River Falls with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Inga Bertha Hanson was born on September 11, 1908 at Erie, the daughter of J. Edwin and Alma (Stephenson) Hanson. She was baptized in the Christian faith as an infant and later confirmed in that faith in the Norwegian language. Inga lived on the family farm and attended school in Goodridge.

On December 29, 1926 she was united in marriage to Lubertus "Bert" Coan at Goodridge. For a short while the couple lived near Angus where they worked for Oberg Farms. For a short while they also lived near Ponemah where Inga cooked at the Ponemah School and Bert was a logger. They returned to rural Goodridge where they farmed for many years. In 1978 they retired and moved into Goodridge. Bert died on September 22, 1988. In January of 1995 Inga moved to Valley Home in Thief River Falls, and in February of 1997 moved to the CNC Unit of Northwest Medical Center.

Inga was named the Outstanding Senior Citizen in Pennington County in 1989. She was a member of the Deer Park Garden Club and won awards for the 13th District Horticultural Society. She was also membership chairperson for the Goodridge Historical Society and an active member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Her hobbies included cooking and gardening, especially flowers. She enjoyed visiting and keeping in touch with family and friends.

Inga is survived by one daughter, Dorothy (Edgar) Miller of Goodridge; one son, Kenneth Coan of Goodridge; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Julian (Teresa) Hanson of Tucson, AZ; one sister, Lillian (Alvin) Nordvold of Zumbrota; and several other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Selma Anderson and Esther Myklejord; and one brother, Eddie Hanson.
