The Douglas Herald - Thursday, September 7, 1944

Mrs. Joy A. Hanson, 40, life time resident of Douglas and vicinity, died suddenly at her home in Douglas Friday morning at 7:30 o'clock. She had been in her usual good health and the previous afternoon had assisted in serving at a meeting of the Lutheran Ladies Aid, of which she was president. She transacted business about town that evening. In the morning, she complained of a pain in her head and went back to bead. Shortly after, members of the family found her on the floor dead. The body was taken to the Thompson-Larson funeral home at Minot.

Lillian Gladys Larson was born in Cameron Township March 21, 1904. Her father, L.J. Larson died 2 years ago and her mother lives in Douglas. She was married to Joy A. Hanson, now a Douglas drayman, in Minot on November 17, 1924.

She is survived by her mother; her husband and nine children, Dale LeRoy, seaman in the navy in the Hawaiian Islands, Carl Bernell, Delores, Joyce, Richard, Koreen, JoAnn, Maysil and Gerald, all at home; three brothers, Glen J. Larson of Douglas; Lyle, with the armed forces in France; and Gordon of Seattle and two sisters, Mrs. A.J. Snowbeck (Bernice) of New Ulm, Minn., and Mrs. Martin Bowen (LaVerne) of Seattle.

Mrs. Hanson was active in church and fraternal circles. She was secretary-treasurer of the Modern Woodman Circle and was past Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge of Douglas. Mrs. Hanson had served as correspondent for the Ward County Independent faithfully and exceedingly well for some time. Funeral services were held from the Lutheran church in Douglas Tuesday with rev. Carl M. Fosmark, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Douglas cemetery.
