A special memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Carol Smith Bourgeois was held by her grandchildren at the home of her son, Robert Melancon.
Mrs. Bourgeois, age 76 and resident of Marksville for 45 years, passed away on October 1, 20012. She was dietitian for the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office for 16 years, serving all of the prisons in Avoyelles. She also worked at the Dairy Queen in Marksville for many years. Later, she and her husband Kent owned the Covered Wagon restaurant in Fifth Ward and the Dairy Queen in Donaldsonville. She had a joy for life and was loved by all. Mrs. Bourgoeois, when interviewed about one of her restaurants back in the 1980s spoke of her grandmother's grandfather, Adolphus Bush, the famous beermaker of an earlier century.
She is preceded in death by her parents Adeline J. Smith and Barnaby Smith; and her son, Mark.
She is survived by her beloved husband of over 45 years, Kent F. Bourgeois; her two sons Robert L. (Katherine) Melancon and Brian Christopher (Mellisa) Bourgeois; her six loving grandchildren, Danielle Melancon (Brandon) Lefort, Jason (Tammy) Rood, Christopher Melancon, Brian Bourgeois, Kristen Dodge and Morgan Bourgeois; and five great-grandchildren, Lily Lefort, Ethan Lefort, Amber Juneua, Alexis Rood and Sylas Rood.
