Thomas Jefferson Chancellor was born in Monroe County, GA 29 Nov 1846. His parents were Gilliam and Josephine Reavis Chancellor.

Thomas served in the 14th GA Infantry Co. A; was captured 2 Apr 1865 at Petersburg, VA and released 24 Jun 1865. Source: Civil War database records - Prisoners of War, Point Lookout, MD, Register- No. 2; Page 132.

Another descendent of Thomas (Katharine Thibodeaux Cadena) adds: "My grandfather, Alvin Hobbs, Thomas' grandson, told me his grandfather told him that upon being released from prison after the Civil War, Thomas was given some buttermilk, cornbread and a plug of tobacco and told "There's the road to Georgia. Start walking.""

Thomas moved to Louisiana in 1867 after serving in the war to join his parents who had moved there earlier.

He was married three times.
