|Death: ||Dec. 31, 1912|
Augustus Ferrea joined Company I, 130th Illinois Infantry on September 9, 1862 at Camp Butler, Illinois. He mustered in on October 25, 1862. His residence was Sangamon County, Illinois and his nativity was the Island of Maderia. He was 25 years old, married, and a painter.
Augustus Fecria was transferred from the 130th to Company I, 77th Illinois Infantry. Augustus Firrnea transferred back to the 130th and mustered out on July 31, 1865 in Springfield, Illinois. He was a prisoner of war.
These transfers can be explained by the history of the 130th Infantry. At the battle of Mansfield the Regiment lost severely and nearly its entire number was captured and taken to Tyler, Texas, where they remained thirteen months as prisoners of war. The remainder of the Regiment, but a handful of men who succeeded in escaping, returned with the army to the Mississippi River, and was ordered to New Orleans. In January, 1865, the 130th was temporarily consolidated with the 77th Illinois. On July 11, 1865, the 77th was mustered out, and the old 130th reorganized into a battalion of six companies. On the first week in August, 1865, it was ordered to New Orleans for muster out.
Augustus Ferria applied for a pension for service with Company I, 77th Illinois Infantry and Company F, 130th Illinois Infantry on March 16, 1885 (#534945) and his widow, Mary, applied on November 5, 1898 (#685680). Augustus Ferria died December 31, 1912 at age 77 years, 8 months, and 2 days. He is buried in Block 11, Lot 13. [contr. by Iced Tea #47266424]
