A loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, Avis passed away on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born in Caruthers on June 7, 1918, the youngest child of Swedish immigrant parents, Arvid and Anna Carlsson Miller.
Avis graduated from Fresno High School in 1935, and received her BA in Education from Fresno State College in 1939.
During her teaching tenures in Riverdale and Fresno Unified, Avis expertly transferred her own love of learning into the minds and hearts of countless students.
Avis was a lifelong member of the First Covenant Church where she faithfully served in many capacities.
In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, painting, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.
She was active in the Fig Garden Women's Club, AAUW, Bible studies, Retired Teachers Association and her Book Club.
She also served on the 1988-89 Fresno County Grand Jury.
With her Lord as her guide, she lived life to the fullest for which she gave Him the glory.
She was preceded in death by Arthur N. Becker, her husband of 59 years; and her brother, J. Eldon Miller.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Kullberg and her husband Lennart; her son, Stephen Becker and his wife Marcia; her grandchildren, Lars Kullberg, Philip Becker and Kristin Lynch and her husband Dan.
Visitation will be held at the Yost and Webb Chapel on Friday, June 4, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at First Covenant Church on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at Belmont Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m.
