Birth: Jan. 14, 1881
Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), Germany
Death: Jun. 15, 1940
Becker County
Minnesota, USA

**She is a bit of a brick wall, so any genealogy info anyone has is most appreciated.**

Gertrude Hüsges 9 Jun 1900 Marriage to Hinrich Hinderks Weets in Loquard, Aurich, Niedersachsen, Germany from Loquard OSB entry 2066.

Gertrude Weets 1922-1925 Marriage to Peter Georg Henning near Wilson, Osceola, Iowa. (confirmed by transcription of back of photo sent back to Loquard Germany in 1930s and copied when I visited Weets relatives there in 2007 "unser Schwägerin Gertrud Weets mit ihre Mann Peter Henning". Don't have exact date.

Records for her:
Loquard, Germany OSB (Ortsippenbuch)
13 Jul 1922 Immigration (New York Pass. List)
1925 Iowa Cens. (Res. Wilson, Osceola, IA) no fam info
1930 US Census (Res. Wilson, Osceola, IA)
1940 US Census (Res. Walworth, Becker, MN)
15 Jun 1940 MN Death Idx (no fam info)

Maiden name: Hüsges
Sources for this were first MN Death Index for Harm Weets (Mmn "Huskies"), Jacob Weets (Mmn "Huiskes").

Sister Anna Hüsges:
Also, son Henry Weets immigrated 11 years prior with 'Aunt & Uncle' Harm Risius & Wife Anna (who said in 1925 father was Henry Hüsges). Loquard OSB lists Harm and Anna (entry 1735, p303) and lists her as "Anna Hüsges, Dienstmagd zu Wybelsum". A search of the Wybelsum OSB at the Ostfriesian Genealogical Society of America (OGSA) Library found no Hüsges or variants in Wybelsum.

Birth Date: Grave marker says Jan 14, 1881 (thanks so much KarinH), but no birth record yet. She does not appear in Loquard OSB with parents, only as wife of Hinrich Hinderks Weets and mother of their children. Her listing at their marriage says "Dienstmagd zu Rysum" (maid in Rysum). No Hüsges or variants appear in Rysum OSB, so she was born elsewhere.

Religion: Loquard (where Gertrud & Anna's marriages took place) is a Lutheran village. Gertrud is buried in a Lutheran cemetery. 1925 Census stated Lutheran. If record below is correct, mother Suchsland was Lutheran, father Hüsges was "Roman Katholik" and she was baptised in the Catholic church.

Tree Clue:I have a tertiary source found on FamilySearch User Submitted Trees that states a "Gertrud Justina Hüsges" was born 14 January 1879 in Emden, Niedersachsen, Germany and christened 19 January 1879 with parents listed as father "Heinrich Hüsges" and mother "Maria Christina Suchsland". The source listed in the tree is: AFGS 1 ARFN I16213 1) Kath. Pfarramt St. Michael Emden, Geburts- und Taufbuch 1853-1897, 1879/102/1 Hüsges, Gertrud Justina, geb. 14., get. 19.01.1879. Eltern: Arbeiter Heinrich H., Maria Christina Suchsland, luth. birth: AFGS 2 _BUCH Geburts- und Taufbuch 1853-1897 3 PAGE 102 3 RFN 1; christening: AFGS 2 _BUCH Geburts- und Taufbuch 1853-1897 3 PAGE 102 3 RFN 1Religion: rk.

**This same tree lists the following children for Heinrich Hüsges and Maria Christina Suchsland (married 1875):

child 1: Peter Mathias /Hüsges/
birth 3 April 1875. Emden.
christening 14 April 1875. Emden.

child 2: Gertrud Justina /Hüsges/
birth 14 January 1879. Emden.
christening 19 January 1879. Emden.

child 3: Margaretha Christina Maria /Hüsges/
birth 29 December 1881. Emden.
christening 8 January 1882. Emden.

child 4: Maria Christina /Hüsges/
birth 17 January 1884. Emden.
christening 3 February 1884. Emden.

Note: Hüsges and Suchsland are extremely rare surnames in Ostfriesland, even more than Weets. Some German directories were found with these names for people living in Emden about 1900, but no connection can yet be made. There is no Emden OSB and the source listed is unavailable in LDS libraries. Both the tree submitter and St. Michael's church have been contacted but no success.

Note2: In the old Ostfriesian language Hüsges (spelled Huuskes) means "House".
