Teen Arrested in West Memphis, Arkansas Fire That Killed 15-Year-Old
"Keltric Gilmer, 19, was charged by West Memphis police with capital murder, arson, residential burglary, breaking and entering and misdemeanor theft following the September 14, 2005 incident which claimed the life of 15 year old Nick Wilson, a 10th grader at Marion High School.
Gilmer pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of murder first degree and he admitted to burglarizing the home and setting fire to it using paper from a trash can. He said that the fire was to cover his tracks.
He also admitted that he returned to the scene as the fire consumed the home and watched as Wilson's mother, Stephanie Carter, jumped from a second story of the home.
Gilmer received 40 years on the first degree murder charge, 20 years on the arson and 10 years on the residential burglary with sentences to run concurrently.
A condition of the arrangement and nature of the crime requires Gilmer to serve 28 years before becoming eligible for parole."
