ANOTHER VETERAN TAKEN FROM LIST
Thomas Alford Succumbs to Dropsy After a Long Spell of Illness
At the ripe age of 73 years, 2 months and 5 days, Tuesday, June 4, Thomas
Alford died at the 70 ranch north of Lakeview. Deceased was a victim of dropsy
and had been suffering from the attack for several months.
He was a native of Benton county, Missouri, and a veteran of the Union Army. He
had been a resident of this section for several years and was man of most
honorable principals. He had innumearable [sic] friends all of whom held him in
the highest esteem. He leaves to mourn his death two sons, William and Thomas
and one daughter Mrs. Phil Mulkey.
The funeral, took place yesterday afternoon from the Baptist church, Rev. H.
Smith officiating and interrment [sic] followed in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. The
pall bearers were: J. Frankl, Mike Hart, R. T. Striplin, M. S. Barnes, R. A.
Paxton and S. P. Moss.
‘Tis with a stinging pang of regret that the Examiner is compelled to chronicle
the passing of so many pioneers who were instrumental in carving this civilized
community from a vast wilderness, and in this work Thomas Alford played an
active part. While death is no doubt a great relief to this man who had been
suffering so intensely from his illness, his loss is keenly felt.
Note for place of birth: Benton County needs confirmation. It is thought that he was born in Chariton Co.,Missouri
