Samuel served as a private with the 11th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Company H (Civil War).
SAMUEL FLEMMING (Flemmings) was born in Ireland about 1832. He was wounded at 2nd Bull Run, April 28 – 30, 1862) and was discharged on a surgeon's certificate on February 18, 1863. Samuel married Margaret Andrews on September 6, 1853, in the First Presbyterian Church, Summit Hill, Carbon County, Pennsylvania. Samuel married Isabella nee Flemming on September 11, 1856, in the First Presbyterian Church, Summit Hill, and parented one known child. Isabella died before 1870. Samuel, who was semi-literate, lived in Coaldale, Rahn Township, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, with his third wife, Mary A. McLean, and five children from 1870 through 1890. His personal estate was valued at $150 in 1870 when he worked as a miner. Samuel later worked as a laborer. He died in 1897 and is buried in the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery, Summit Hill, Carbon County, Pennsylvania
