Writer. In 1956, he began his series of the 87th Precinct novels, with the book "Cop Hater" and become one of the most awarded mistery writers in a career that spanned over 50 years. He was sometimes credited as Ed McBain. He also is remembered for "The Blackboard Jungle," "Mothers and Daughters" and "Last Summer." He also adapted some of his novels for the movies, such as "Fuzz," "Strangers When We Meet" and "The Birds," the classic 1963 film that he and Alfred Hitchcock adapted from a story by Daphne du Maurier.
