Jane is the daughter of George Black. She is of English descent and grew up in Boone county Kentucky. She married Matthew Adams and together they had five children.
She moved with her husband and children to McLean county Illinois, which at the time, was a vast wilderness and she saw and endured all the hardships that come into the life of a pioneer, including pounding corn between stones in order to obtain meal and hominy.
