Thomas Arthur
Birth: 1835
Death: Mar. 2, 1902

Crimean War Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Carlingford, England, he served as a Gunner in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, British Army. In actions on June 7, 1855 at Sebastopol, Crimea, Gunner Arthur was in charge of the magazine in one of the left advanced batteries of the right attack, when the Quarries were taken. On his own initiative, he carried barrels of infantry ammunition for the 7th Fusiliers several times during the evening, across the open. In later actions on June 18, 1855, he volunteered for and formed one of the spiking party of artillery at the assault on the Redan, plus on numerous occasions left the trenches to bring in wounded officers and men to safety. For he was awarded the Victoria Cross presented by Queen Victoria on June 26, 1857. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
