Jim Gene Coble was born to John and Murry Coble of Geary, OK on Feb. 8, 1932. He attended schools in Geary and also Oklahoma State University. He was baptized in the Church of Christ. He served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict.
Jim was united in marriage to Lenore Gerardy on Dec. 24, 1952 at Oklahoma City, OK. Together they raised 3 children.
After his discharge from the Navy, Jim pursued a career in farming and ranching moving to Presho, SD in the summer of 1954. In fulfillment of his passion for raising Hereford cattle, Jim entered into a 40 year partnership with Don Williams to form Coble & Williams Herefords. He was a member of the Big Bend Hereford Association and the American Hereford Association. He retired from ranching in January of 2000.
Jim will be deeply missed by the Presho and Vivian communities. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. He was an active member of the Presho Butrick Unit of the American Legion and the Lions Club. Over his more than 40 years in Lyman County he acted in numerous community plays and served as Master of Ceremonies for all kinds of event. He was the recipient of the Vivian Hall of Fame Award in the fall of 2000 for his contribution to the community. Jim loved making other laugh and was a master story teller with a great sense of humor and a keen wit.
Jim, 69, died at his home on May 15, 2001, surrounded by the love of his family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Lenore, and his children Dianne, Lori, David, 2 grandsons, 3 sisters Johnnie, Inez and Betty, 3 brothers J.D., Joe, and Jack as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and brother in-law Delbert Collins.
