Mark Beatie was born in Culver City, California on May 30, 1941.
He grew up in Mar Vista where he worked as a mechanic for his father's garage.
Catching the "travel bug" at an early age he toured Europe, Russia, Scandinavia, Australia, and New Zeland at age 19 years old, with only $2,400 dollars.
He returned to work for Papermate Pen Co. and attended Santa Monica City College for 2 years.
He spent 2 years in the Army, then spent 4 years in Hawaii working for Surf Magazine.
He became a professional photographer and taught photography at Santa Monica City College.
He moved to Sanger in the 1970's and opened Mark Beatie Photography.
He later moved to san Juan Capistrano and opened a studio there.
He began a travel business for photographers, and traveled the world taking pictures. He moved again to Rancho Santa Fe near Del Mar California and opened a photography studio in his home. He took photos of many famous people such as Elizabeth Taylor and his work hung in the National Art Gallery in Washington, D.C. Mark taught and was a board member at the prestigious Brooks Institure of Photography in Santa Barbara.
He won many awards as a master photographer, loved to travel, listen to bluegrass music, and play tricks on his friends and family.
Mark is survived by his wife, Judy Wright Beatie, and children, Shawn Matt and Amanda Beatie.
A memorial service will be held for Mark on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Sanger Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
He passed away in May.
