Oden R. "Bob" Quesenberry, 77, of South Congaree, S.C., known as Bob to his friends, went home to be with his Lord on October 3, 2008. Bob was born in Christiansburg, Va. to the late Oden and Gladys Quesenberry on June 13, 1931. He retired from the Air Force, after 20 years of service, on September 1, 1970. During his military career, he served abroad during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and a tour in Germany. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant. After his military service, Bob entered the business world as an owner/operator of Poor Boys Country Store in South Congaree and then Astro Sales as a Slush Puppy distributor. Bob served his Lord as an active member at Springdale Baptist Church and then Northside Baptist Church. He was also very active in the life of the South Congaree community. One of his pleasures in recent years was his ministry of repairing used bicycles and giving them to Columbia Mission. Bob was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wilma McLeod Quesenberry; daughter, Robin Lowe and her husband ,Ray and their sons, Jonathan and Michael, of Bahama, N.C.; daughter, Sandy Best and her husband, Eddie and their son, McLeod and daughter, McKenna, of Irmo, S.C.; and son Dan Quesenberry, of Lexington, S.C. He also leaves behind his beloved dog and playful companion Pug. He is also survived by sister, Loraine Smith, of Roanoke, Va., sister Barbara Sifford, of Salem, Va.; brother, Jude Quesenberry, of Powhatan, Va., brother, Jerry Quesenberry, of Roanoke, Va.; and sister, Jean Huffman, of Roanoke, Va., as well as their respective families. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Annie Mae McLeod, aunt Mildred Bayes, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was a man who dearly loved his Lord, his family, his dog, Pug, his friends, and his community. His Christian character, fun sense of humor, zest for the leadership courses of John Maxwell, and attitude of "never meeting a stranger" will have an enduring impact on all who knew him.
Service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Springdale Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Tommy McGill. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the building funds of either Springdale Baptist Church, 357 Wattling Rd, West Columbia, SC 29169 or Northside Baptist Church, 1303 Sunset Blvd. West Columbia, SC 29169. www.thompsonsfuneral.com
