Mrs. D. F. (Dora) Bethel, 76, a lifelong resident of Wagoner County, died Wednesday afternoon, September 20, 1944, at the farm home northwest of Wagoner, after an illness of only a few days.
Born in the Cherokee Nation of then Indian Territory, Dora Walters attended the Tullahassee Mission School. Miss Alice Robertson, later to become Oklahoma's first congresswoman, was her teacher.
At Muskogee 63 years ago, Mrs. Bethel joined the Presbyterian Church while attending the Presbyterian School, now Tulsa University, there.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bethel will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home with Rev. J. Edwin Kerr, Atoka, former long time pastor of the Wagoner Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Wagoner's Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Hersman Funeral Home. Besides her husband of the home, Mrs. Bethel is survived by one daughter; Miss Julia Bethel, Abilene, Texas; two sons, Howard Bethel of Odessa, Texas, and Albert Bethel of Graham, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Lula Ware, Tulsa, and three grandchildren.
