Dorothy "Dot" Eleanor Hamby Cartlege was the daughter of Rev. Charles Pinkney Hamby, Sr. and Louie Ann Williams Hamby. She lived much of her life in Fairfield, Alabama. She was a caterer and was active at Fairfield United Methodist Church. She married G. T. (Green Thornton) Cartledge, a pharmacist. They married in July of 1939.

Her children are Carol Jean Cartledge Grissett, G.T. Cartledge, Jr., June Ann Cartledge Abston, and Cathy Elizabeth Cartledge Fleenor.

Dot died in Alabaster, Alabama surrounded by all four of her children. She is buried with her beloved husband by the graves of her mother, Louie Williams Hamby, and her sister, Betty Hamby West.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Elmwood Chapel in Birmingham for Dorothy Hamby Cartledge who went to be with our Lord, Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005. The Rev. Pete West will officiate. Graveside services will follow.

Mrs. Cartledge joined Fairfield Methodist Church in 1946 and was an active member until her illness prevented her attendance. Owner of Cartledge Catering, she was gifted in catering and floral design.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Charley Hamby; brothers, Marvin Hamby and James Earl Hamby; sister, Betty Hamby West; and her husband of 50 years, G.T. Cartledge Sr.

She is survived by her son, G.T. Cartledge Jr., Tuscaloosa; daughters, Carol Grissett, Gadsden, June Abston, Alabaster, and Cathy Fleenor, Atlanta; and brothers, the Rev. Warren Hamby and Dr. C.P. Hamby. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be missed by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, Dot wanted donations to be sent to John Croyle's Big Oak Ranch, P.O. Box 507, Springville, AL 35146.

The family will receive friends for one hour before the service.
