ST. GEORGE - Distinguished St. George, Utah businessman and LDS Church leader Maeser Welcome Terry, 91, died July 19, 2005 of complications incident to age. He was surrounded by his beloved wife Marilla and his devoted family, those to whom he had given the strength of his life and all of his love. Born September 18, 1913 in Enterprise, Utah to Joseph A. and Nancy Mae Holt Terry, he was educated in Enterprise public schools where he served as student body president of Enterprise High School during the year in which the legendary block "E" was constructed on the hillside west of the community. A gifted musician with a beautiful tenor voice, he was regularly cast in the lead of a series of musicals in high school and later at Dixie College where he studied Education and graduated in 1934. He was a member of the Enterprise String Band, playing the drums, for many years. Following his marriage on June 15, 1934 in the St. George LDS Temple to his childhood sweetheart, the beautiful Marilla Barlocker, they began a farming operation which grew in later years into the turkey-raising and turkey processing business know throughout the Mountain West as Bill's Best. During those years he also created Terry's Mercantile, a grocery and dry goods store in Enterprise. Always committed to civic activities and the betterment of his community, Maeser particularly enjoyed a career-long membership in the service to Rotary International. Unfailingly devoted to his Church and the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he served a mission in the Oakland California Mission with his wife from 1980-82. All seven of his children also served missions for the church. He gave dedicated service as Bishop, a member of the High Council, Stake Patriarch, and for more than twenty-five years as an ordinance worker in the St. George LDS Temple. Maeser's faith meant everything to him and is the central element in the eternal legacy he leaves his posterity. Maeser is survived by his wife, (to whom he sang "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" every night of their married life), and the following children: Reginald (Linda) Terry, and Fenton (Ilona) Terry of Enterprise; Patricia (Jeffrey) Holland of Salt Lake City; Steven (Marie) Terry of Page, Arizona; David (Linda) Terry of St. George; and the late Joseph (LeAnn) Terry of Diamond Valley, Sherene (David) Dillon of Farmington, Utah; and foster son Buzzy Kiro of Gallup, New Mexico; 38 grandchildren, 82 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph, his parents and siblings, Mabel Terry Bryan, Durward Terry, Hazel Ruth, and Merrill Terry. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 22, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the St. George LDS West Stake Center, 1285 N. Bluff Street, St. George, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday, July 21, from 6-8 p.m., at the Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., and Friday, July 22, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to services at the Stake Center. Interment will take place at 3 p.m., in the Enterprise City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary 435-673-4221. Condolences may be sent to the family through Metcalf's website at www.metcalfmortuary.com. The family wishes to thank those associated with Horizon Home Health Care and Rocky Mountain Hospice, for the loving care and assistance given their husband and father in the declining months of his life.
