A democrat and his party in the minority, yet he repeatedly was elected on the board of selectmen. He also represented the town in the legislature of 1877.
In military times he was Capt of a Co. of militia and afterwards of a company of home guards in the time of the Civil War. He was a member of Cheshire Lodge, F.A.A.M.
He and Judith had two children
