"Rufus was the 14th of Hezekiah and Polly Elliott's 16 children. During the Civil War he was in F Co. 12th Ark. Inf. CSA, the same outfit two of his brothers, Samuel and Mark, were in. He was captured June 9th, 1863 and paroled July 12-13 at Port Hudson, Louisiana. He applied for a Confederate Pension with the State of Arkansas in 190, his application being #15286. Of the three brothers who fought in the Civil War, he was the only one to survive. After the war, Rufus made his living as a farmer. On Dec. 29, 1869 he married Margaret Minerva Alston. THey had at least two children, Ella (born 1871), and Milton (born 1875). Margaret passed away in 1900." (bio written by Dorothy Varnell)
