Obit for James P. Roush -
Bellvue Gazette - 12 OCTOBER 1916 P 1-1 THURSDAY - DEATH CALLS JAS P. ROUSH - WELL KNOWN MT. PLEASANT RESIDENT SUCCUMBS TO STROKE OF APOPLEXY SUSTAINED SEPTEMBER 25

A STROKE OF APOPLEXY, SUSTAINED MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, CAUSED THE DEATH AT SIX O`CLOCK SATURDAY MORNING OF JAMES P. ROUSH, LONG TIME AND ONE OF YORK TOWNSHIP . AT THE AGE OF 73 YEARS, SEVEN MONTHS AND TWO DAYS.

THE STROKE WHICH WAS THE CAUSE OF DEATH WAS SUSTAINED BY MR. ROUSH AT HIS HOME, HE HAVING GONE TO THE BARN FOR THE PURPOSE OF HITCHING THE HORSE AND DRIVING TO TOWN. MRS ROUSH HEARING UNUSUAL NOISES FROM THE BARN, WENT TO INVESTIGATE AND FOUND THE HUSBAND LYING ON THE BRICK FLOOR OF THE BARN, HIS HEAD SURROUNDED BY A POOL OF BLOOD. NEIGHBORS WERE SUMMONED AND HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOUSE WHERE MEDICAL SCIENCE DID EVERYTHING POSSIBLE BUT THE DECEASED NEVER FULLY RECOVERED CONSCIOUSNESS AND LINGERED IN A COMATOSE CONDITION UNTIL , DURING THE PAST FEW DAYS, IT WAS APPARENT THAT THE END WAS DRAWING NEAR. HE BEGAN TO FAIL RAPIDLY ON FRIDAY EVENING AND CONTINUED TO DECLINED UNTIL SIX O`CLOCK SATURDAY MORNING WHEN HE QUIETLY PASSED AWAY.

BORN IN MIFFINBURG COUNTY , PENNSYLVANIA, MARCH 5, 1843, MR ROUSH CAME TO THIS VICINITY WITH HIS PARENTS, MR. AND MRS. JOSEPH ROUSH, WHO WERE AMONG THE PIONEERS OF THIS SECTION, AND CONTINUED TO MAKE HIS RESIDENCE HERE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THREE YEARS SPENT AT BELLEFONTAINE.

NOVEMBER 12, 1863 HE WAS UNITED IN MARRIAGE TO MISS NANCY LONGFELLOW, A DAUGHTER OF JOSEPH AND MARY LONGFELLOW , AT HOME OF HER PARENTS, NEAR BELLEFONTAINE . AND THE FOLLOWING YEAR ENLISTED IN COMPANY F. 132ND O.V. I., AND SERVED UNTIL THE CLOSE OF THE WAR MR. AND MRS. ROUSH MAINTAINED A RESIDENCE NEAR BELLEVUE FOR THREE YEAR PERIOD COMING TO BELLEVUE IN 1867 AND RESIDING IN YORK TOWNSHIP EVER SINCE, HAVING LIVED AT MT. PLEASANT FOR ELEVEN YEARS.

THREE CHILDREN WERE BORN TO THIS UNION, MARY ALICE, DYING IN INFANCY, ARTHUR DYING AT THE AGE OF 4 YEARS, AND EDWARD, THE ONLY SURVIVING CHILD, WHO RESIDES IN YORK TOWNSHIP . THE GRANDCHILDREN, ALLEN ROUSH, LEVETO COLO.. MARY LEHUE, BALDWIN, COLO., WILSON ROUSH, OF BELLEVUE, ALSO SURVIVE.

THE DECEASED WAS ALWAYS INTERESTED IN THE G.A.R. AND TOOK AN ACTIVE PART IN THE AFFAIRS OF LOCAL ORGANIZATION EVER SINCE ITS INSTITUTION WAS ONE OF THE PROMOTERS OF THE YORK FREE CHAPEL ASSOCIATION AND HAD BEEN SECRETARY OF THE YORK FREE CHAPEL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION FOR MANY YEARS, OR SINCE ITS ORGANIZATION.

IN THE CALLING OF MR. ROUSH A LIFE OF FRUITFULNESS AND ACHIEVEMENT IS ENDED. HE EVER WAS INTERACTED IN THE UPLIFT AND WELFARE OF THE COMMUNITY OF WHICH HE WAS A RESIDENT, AN UNTIRING WORKER WHO SEEMED NEVER MORE CONTENTED THAN WHEN PERFORMING ACTS OF KINDNESS OR HELPFULNESS TO NEIGHBORS AND OTHERS WITH WHOM HE CAME IN CONTACT AND YHE HOSPITALITY OF HIS HOME WAS KNOWN FOR A RADIUS OF MANY MILES. FOR MANY YEARS HE HAS SERVED IN THE CAPACITY OF ASSESSED OF YORK TOWNSHIP , OUTSIDE OF BELLEVUE, AND PROBABLY CLAIMS A GREATER CIRCLE OF ACQUAINTANCES AND FRIENDS THAN ANY RESIDENT OF THE TERRITORY IN WHICH HE RESIDED AND HIS DEATH WILL BE LONG MOURNED BUT HIS MEMORY CHERISHED IN THE RECOLLECTION OF THE KINDLY ACTS AND GOODS DEEDS WHICH HE HAS PERFORMED. HIS PASSING WILL COME AS A SERVER BLOW TO THE AGED WIDOW, WHO HAS BEEN AN INVALID FOR MANY YEARS, AND WHOM HE ASSISTED AND CARED FOR IN A MANOR IN WHICH THE HAND OF ANOTHER CANNOT SERVE
