Death: May 2, 1925

James Edward Beasley was born in Plymouth,N.C. and died in Memphis, Tenn. Immediately after his graduation from the University of North Carolina,in June 1859,he located in Memphis,where in 1861, he enlisted in the Shelby Greys,which later became a part of the 4th Regiment,Tenn Infantry,of which C.F. Strahl was colonel. Beasley was so
valuable a man Col.Strahl kept him about his headquarters,
depending on him for much of the clerical work;and he rendered invaluable services in discharging the duties of
Adjutant General after Col Strahl became brigadier general,
though Beasley was never commissioned. On the bloody field
of Franklin Tenn., Gen. Strahl fell mortally wounded and died in Beasley's arms.
Comrade Beasley was married to Miss Rebecca Minna Treadwell,
of Memphis on Feb. 2,1881.(Confederate Veteran, Vol XXXIII,
