Death: Apr. 11, 2007

Mr. Frank A. Dare, Sr., age 76, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Utica on September 27, 1930, Frank was the son of the late Frank L. and Katherine (Taverne) Dare. He was raised and educated locally. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, he served his country stateside for a two year tour. On June 7, 1952, he was united in marriage with the former Marie T. Rocco with whom he shared 54 years. As a couple, they adored and idolized one another from a young age; they were inseparable in their love and closeness. As a young boy, Frank was taught the trade of masonry by his uncle, George A. Nole. He started at a young age to know the responsibilities of the profession as he apprenticed with his uncle. Subsequently, with expertise in his craft, he established Frank Dare Mason-Contractors and proudly constructed the foundations of many area homes. His hallmark was his artistry with stone work. He constructed many remarkable fireplaces, interior plaster walls and ceilings, and exterior design works. His work evoked his trademark signature of quality and integrity, based on reputable and fair business practices. For 20 years, he also assisted in the operation of Utica Veal, an enterprise owned by his wife's family. A man of strength and character, Frank was a determined, patient, 'take-charge' person. He was a man of his word, especially within family life, and he rejoiced in the values that he and his wife passed on to their children. His proudest moments were those spent with his family whenever they gathered to celebrate events and holidays. An outdoorsman, he found pleasure in hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Clinton Road Runners and the American Legion Post # 229. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Frank is survived by his cherished wife, Marie; his children and their spouses, Frank Jr. and Cheryl Dare of East Syracuse, Joseph R. and Karen Dare of Schuyler, Judy M. and Anthony Testa of Frankfort, David A. and MaryJo Dare of Utica, Michele J. and Levi Dousharm of Frankfort, and Marie G. and David Koester of Cape Coral, FL; his grandchildren, Casey and Jenny Dare, Joey Dare and fiance, Tressa Rahn, Rocco Dare, and Frankie Dare, Tanya and Lon Thrasher, Anthony Testa and fiance, Justine Murray, David and Melinda Dare, Frank Dare and his friend, Krystel Cordero, Levi Dousharm, Jr. and Micaela Dousharm, and Sammy and Daniel Koester; and his great-grandchild, Jaden Rose. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers-in-law, Congetta "Connie" DiMare of Utica, Carmella "Mella" and Thomas Carcone of Utica, and Kathleen "Cookie" and Richard Morse of Schuyler. His extended family includes his nieces, especially Tricia Frattasio; nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; his in-laws, Donald and Helen Houck, Shirley and Nicholas Frattasio, Rocco J. and Beatrice Rocco, Joseph and Joanne Rocco, and Frank and Deborah Rocco, all of Utica. Frank knew the friendship of Anne Puleo and her late husband, Frank, and Marty and Betty Beerhalter -who were the best of friends for nearly 50 years. He was predeceased by his sister, Theresa Houck; his in-laws, Joseph and Marie Rocco; and his brother-in-law, Vincent L. DiMare. The family expresses their appreciation to the Special Care Unit /4th Floor at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their constant support and devotion in caring for Frank; to Fr. Anthony LaFache for his spiritual guidance; and to the staff of the Monticello Unit and 4 North/South at the Masonic Care Community of New York for the respect and dignity they offered with much love. Visitation will be held Friday (today) from 4:00 - 7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Frank's funeral will commence on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 from the funeral home and at 2:00 at St. Anthony of Padua Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Military Honors. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Online tributes at: www.EannaceFuneralHome.com
